Hand hygiene crucial in preventing diarrhoea and respiratory illnesses
Simple handwashing with soap at key times—before eating, after using the toilet, and after handling waste or animals—is one of the most effective ways to prevent diarrhoea and respiratory infections. In many rural communities, access to water and soap and the habit of handwashing are still limited, which increases the risk of illness, especially among children.
CaroGhana’s WASH programmes focus on hand hygiene promotion alongside Community-Led Total Sanitation (CLTS). We work in communities, schools and health facilities to encourage behaviour change through demonstrations, group sessions and support for handwashing facilities. When families and institutions adopt regular handwashing, the impact on health can be significant.
We continue to advocate for stronger WASH systems and universal hand hygiene so that everyone, everywhere can protect their health with this simple, life-saving practice.
